The High Priest

In this session, we are going to read about Jesus being on trial. We know that He went through 6 hearings or trials in all – 3 religious trials before the Jewish authorities and 3 civil trials before Roman authorities. Mark 14 records the first religious trial.

If you have ever watched a courtroom drama, you know the climax is often that moment when the jury files into the courtroom, and the judge says, “Have you reached a verdict?” And the jury foreman says, “Yes, Your Honor. We find the defendant…” (dramatic pause)…

And when we know the person did it, we wait to hear that pronouncement, “Guilty!” When we know they are innocent, we wait to hear them say, “Not guilty.” We love that moment when justice is served. But that is not what happens in this trial.
