The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil
For three session as we approach Christmas, we will be talking about “The Tree.” For a few weeks every year, the backdrop for our services at First Baptist is a 30’steel-framed Singing Christmas Tree. There is a big one out in the foyer, too. And all over our campus there are lots of Christmas trees. But Christmas trees aren’t mentioned in Scripture at all. But trees? Trees are everywhere in the Bible.
In fact, the entire story of the Gospel, from beginning to end, can be told through three trees.
The Bible opens with a tree.
The Bible ends with a tree.
And at the center of the gospel stands a tree the apostles called the cross.
This first message takes us back to the very beginning, to The Tree of the Knowledge of Good & Evil – because you cannot fully understand Christmas until you understand why Jesus had to come. The manger only makes sense because of what happened under this tree.
Please find Genesis 2-3.
