The Other Proverbs 31 Woman

When we think of Proverbs 31, we think of Verses 10-31, the acrostic poem that describes the ideal of woman of Godly character. But in this session we will look at the other Proverbs 31 woman, the one mentioned in Verse 1: the mother of King Lemuel, the mom who is actually speaking in this chapter.

In Proverbs 31:1-9, Scripture presents us with sort of a mystery. We don’t know who King Lemuel is, we don’t know his mother’s name, and we don’t know the occasion when she told him what she told him. We do know that King Lemuel recognized that what his mom taught him was an utterance (a message given by God).

Lemuel’s mom establishes her authority and her responsibility to teach her son about life. Thank God for mothers who recognize that! Please find Proverbs 31.
