One-Eighty Biblical Discipleship Counseling Training

Friday, September 8, 2017 - Saturday, September 9, 2017

Please join us for 30 hours of basic courses for beginning trainees in Biblical Discipleship Counseling. This training is largely designed to support and assist church members and ministers who sense the need to strengthen their effectiveness in helping those who suffer in their church and neighborhood communities. It is the hope and vision of this training to provide Biblical hope and change which flows out of Gospel truths, focuses on change from the heart out, and is intensely practical in its use of all the Biblical elements of change. Attending the training helps any believer or counselor strengthen their reliance on the collaborative supernatural resources God has provided for change. The classes are done under the supervision of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Biblical counseling does not set aside real life issues, but works to understand their origin, impact and involvement in the person's life from a Biblical perspective.  While we are certainly influenced (sometimes greatly) by our past events, our suffering, the sin of others, and/or our own sin, in Christ we need not be determined, defined by or remain enslaved to the same ( 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Jeremiah 31:29-30).  Through Jesus Christ there is restoration where there once was brokenness (Revelation 21:5).

Some of the topics to be covered include: How to Grow and Change, Pride and Humility, Guilt, Repentance and Faith, Worry and Fear, Trials and Suffering, Psychological Diagnosis, Medical Issues in Counseling, Depression, Sexual Sin, Forgiveness, Origin and Purpose of Marriage, Roles of Husband and Wife, Biblical View of Sexuality, Parenting: Discipline & Instruction, Communication, and Conflict Resolution.

The training is done in three-weekend modules, providing 30 hours of education over 30 introductory Biblical counseling topics.  Training will be held on September 8-9, October 13-14 and November 17-18.  Friday evening sessions are from 6:30-10:00 pm and Saturday sessions last from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.  Featured speakers will include: Dr. Stuart Scott; Charles Hodges, MD; and Pastors Kevin Carson and Mark Mann.

Since the course, which is taught by a professional faculty, will satisfy the first of three phases for certification with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC), there is a fee for participation.  The deadline to registration is August 22.
