Core Convictions of Membership
This is not a comprehensive list of everything we value; however, it is a core list. As members of First Baptist Church Sevierville, we hold fast with excellence to the following core convictions:
1 Corinthians 15:3b-4, “that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” We believe the heart of the Gospel message is what Jesus did when He gave Himself as a sacrifice for our sins.
2 Thessalonians 2:1, “Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him…” We believe until that great day when Jesus gathers the universal church in heaven, we should gather with the local church weekly.
Acts 2:44, “All the believers were together and had everything in common.” The original church met in both big gatherings and small groups. We follow that pattern today, and we believe we need both.
Luke 12:34, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” We believe that it is the responsibility of every church member to give generously to the ministry of the church. That conviction is rooted in the earliest beginning of the followers of Jesus.
Matthew 28:19, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” We believe that every member should be involved in obeying that command.
