Jerry has enjoyed being a part of the First Baptist pastoral staff since 1992 after serving churches in North Carolina & teaching at Fruitland Bible Institute in North Carolina. He and his wife Linda are the happy parents of Courtney.
He picked up the nickname “Bear” while serving as a youth minister in the 1970’s. He graduated from Gardner Webb University & Southwestern Seminary with degrees in Christian Education. He is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and the Baptist Association of Christian Educators.
Jerry’s favorite Bible verse is “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens,” Psalm 68:19.
His focus in ministry is sharing the love of Christ with others and helping them grow in their personal relationship with Him. Jerry enjoys time with his family, sports, hiking in the Smoky Mountains and guitar music. He is known for his love of telling stories which he calls "Jerry Bear Tales."
